965,088. Laminates. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 24, 1960 [Nov. 2, 1959], No. 36446/60. Heading B5N. A composite thermal-insulating material is made by applying to at least one face of metallic sheets a paste comprising a refractory thermalinsulating material in fibrous form and an adhesive, stacking the sheets and then heating to unite the fibres with the metal. The metal may be one having a low neutron absorption, e.g. magnesium, or may be very thin if it is of, e.g., stainless steel. The refractory fibres may be of metallic oxide, e.g. magnesia, alumina or beryllia, or of asbestos, glass, or silica. The adhesive may be an organic adhesive, e.g. camphor, paraffin or shellac, or a silicate, e.g. sodium silicate. The metallic sheets may be perforated or in the form of fine-mesh lattice screens. The stacking may be effected by helical winding of a single sheet. Specification 887,345 is referred to.
