Abstract
887,345. Laminates. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 30, 1958], No. 28637/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. [Also in Group XXII] Flexible heat insulating material comprises superposed thin layers of metal of thickness not exceeding 0.2 mm. having between them layers of oxide of the same or another metal. The preferred metals are aluminium and nickel or alloys thereof. The metals may be in the form of foil or of sintered powder. The oxide layers may be on one or both metal surfaces, and may be formed on the surfaces as by anodization, or formed separately and applied to the metal and adhered thereto by surface contact. The individual laminµ also adhere to one another without adhesive. The laminates may be in the form of panels or of flexible strips which may be applied, for example to tubes, by helical winding. For the latter purpose a single oxide covered strip may be used. Aluminium-aluminium oxide assemblies are stated to have a low neutron-absorption cross-section and to be employable in connection with nuclear reactors.
