Class 20(3) [Also in Group VIII] Boards of synthetic resin impregnated material such as kraft paper, asbestos sheet, sisal or other jute fibre mats or textile cloth, but preferably glass cloth or glass fibre mats, are made by enclosing a sheet or sheets of the material in an envelope, for example comprising a pair of cellulose acetate sheets slightly larger than the enclosed sheets closed on three edges by adhesive tape, pouring a liquid synthetic resin such as a styrene-cross-linked polyester or an epoxy resin, into the envelope, compressing it to expel occluded air, and allowing the resin to set, with or without mild heating. The envelope is preferably compressed by rolling in a slightly inclined position,' open end uppermost, and is then supported horizontally and lightly pressed, e.g. with a flat glass plate, during setting of the resin. The envelope may be thereafter removed or retained until the board is to be used. Ornamented paper sheets which may be coloured, or become transparent in the resin used, may be placed on one or both sides of the reinforcing material, or one sheet may be placed between two layers of the reinforcing material.
