Abstract
Leather is water-proofed by treatment with an aqueous emulsion containing 5-65% of an alkenyl succinic acid containing 14 to 22 carbon atoms in the alkenyl chain or a hydrogenation product or a salt or partial salt or an ester or partial ester, the emulsion containing particles of 1-10 microns. Up to an equal weight of mineral oil based on the succinic acid derivative may also be present. The leather may have been chrome tanned. The leather may absorb 4-16% of alkenyl succinic acid. Specification 694,586 is referred to.
