Abstract

964,949. Drying vegetable products. COLOMBO COMMERCIAL CO. Ltd. April 19, 1963 [Oct. 16, 1962], No. 15622/63. Heading F4G. Tea or other vegetable products are dried by conveyance on a perforated or permeable endless belt 6 through an open-topped trough 1 having air from a heat-exchanger and fan (not shown) passing into separate parts 24, 25, 26 of a valve box 23 for passage to three separate ducts 27, 28, 29 having separate outlets 33, 34, 35 directed upwardly against the underside of the belt 6 to span separate successive and contiguous zones. Dampers 36, 37, 38 control the quantity of hot air to each valve box part and the ducts, their outlets and respective parts of the valve box may be successively decreasing cross-sectional areas. An adjustable spreader 14 consisting of radial vanes with serrated edges on a shaft 16 is mounted at the feed end of the belt 6 and is driven from an idler roller 10 of the belt. In a modification three such troughs may be mounted in superposed relation.
