Abstract

964,074. Respiratory equipment. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. May 30, 1963 [June 5, 1962], No. 21680/63. Heading A5T. A holder for a chemical canister 12 in a breathing apparatus comprises a base member 11 formed in one piece with a main frame 10 and a cover member 25, pivoted thereto, at each side, at 27 and connected by two lateral members 29, pivoted to it at 28, to a top member 21. The canister is inserted as shown and the cover member 25 is then swung upwards, so as to draw the top member 21 downwards firmly against the canister. The cover 25 is retained by latches 36, 37 and the canister is sealed to the associated ducts 5, 16 by rubber seals 23, 13 respectively. Release of the cover 25 automatically raises the top member 21 to permit removal of the canister. In the apparatus described the breathing bag 4 surrounds the main frame 10 and the outlet 16 from the canister is provided with internal and external fins for cooling. A cap remover 42 is also provided for pulling off the sealing caps from new canisters.
