Abstract

964,023. Underfloor towing-chain conveyers. SOVEX Ltd. Sept. 14, 1962 [July 12, 1961], No. 25304/61. Heading B7L. In an underfloor towing-chain conveyer the queueing of trucks at a location or each such location is effected by an underfloor device controlling the release and/or re-engagement of a truck with the constantly moving conveyer chain. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 an arm 3, pivotally mounted on a continuously moving underfloor chain 1, is normally held in a towing position against a spring 3<SP>1</SP> in which position it engages a towing pin 24 projecting downwardly from a truck through a floor slot 27, by a roller 5 bearing against the side wall 6 of the chain track. At a queueing station the roller 5 enters a recess 7 in the side wall 6 and the arm 3 is pivoted out of the driving engagement with the towing pin 24, which pin 24 enters a notch 23 in an arm 22 to hold the associated truck stationary. In order to cause an approaching arm 3 to move into, or remain in, driving connection with the towing pin 24 of a queueing or moving truck a motor 17 is energized and through a face cam 16 and follower roller 15 pivots an arm 8 into alignment with the side wall 6 in order to prevent the roller entering recess 7 and at the same time moves the arm 22 clear of the towing pin 24. In an alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the arm 22 is mounted on a block 30 slidable in a fixed part 39 against rubber cushions 42 in order to absorb the shock when the towing pin 24 engages in the notch 23. The inner face 8b in the arm 8a is provided with a contour which permits the arm 3a to take up driving connection with the towing pin 24 without shock. Specification 964,021 is referred to.
