Abstract

963,768. Windows. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON Ltd. April 4, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 17076/62. Headings E1J and E1R. In a window, particularly for a vehicle body 21, wherein a glazing strip 20 (e.g. of rubber) holds a pane 15 against a gasket 17 in the angle of a metal frame 10, the strip 20 is provided with drainage holes 23 registering with passageways or gaps 24 in the gasket. The drainage holes are normally situated only at the lower edge of the window. As shown the gaps 24 are provided by making the gasket 17 of short discontinuous lengths. In a modification the gasket is continuous but has sections of reduced thickness providing drainage passageways adjacent the holes 23. The pane 15 is fixed and co-operates with a pane 11 sliding on rails 12. Over that part of the frame (not shown) occupied by the sliding pane 11 when closed, the gasket 17 is continuous and has a parallelogram crosssection to provide a smooth sloping continuation of the frame surface 25.
