Abstract
963,514. Shank lasting machines. EUGEN G. HENKEL MASCHINENFABRIK. Dec. 21, 1962 [Jan. 23, 1962; Sept. 11, 1962], No. 48465/62. Heading A3B. A shank lasting machine comprises a plurality of wiper fingers 35, vertically displaceable from rest to a working position and operatively associated with a plurality of vertically displaceable exploring pins 19 adapted to contact the bottom 76 of the last 75, so that the wiper fingers associated with the individual pines are vertically displaceable in accordance with the vertical displacement of the exploring pins to be exactly adjusted in the lasting position. In the operation of the machines after the last carrying the wiper 77 is in position and the heel band 53 is closed, oil is introduced into a cylinder 7 to cause a housing 4 carrying the exploring system 2 to move downwards against tension springs 17, the lateral arms 20 of the exploring member pushing the wiper fingers 34 downward against the action of springs 39, until the exploring fingers 19 contact the centre of the insole 76 mounted on the last. The exploring members are then pushed upwardly in the housing against the action of springs 22, and thus the fingers are adjusted in accordance with the slope of the shank. Shank formers 50 are positioned along the line of slope of the shank by a rearward extension 74 of the front wiper finger pressing a roller 70 connected via an arm 69 with the shaft 65 on which the suport head 78 of the former is disposed. Blade type wipers (not shown) close to last the heel, and oil is admitted to hydraulic cylinders 59, forcing the formers by means of slides 55 against the last 75. The formers are pivoted to enable them to be adapted to the contours of the last. Simultaneously oil is admitted to cylinder 45 so that the packs of wiper fingers are compressed by pressure plates and are locked in their adjusted position. The entire supporting part 27 is then advanced against the last 75, so the fingers 34 last and adhesively secure the margin of the shank over the insole, the exploring system 2 being at the same time retracted to its starting position due to the movement of the wipers opening a valve to release the oil pressure in cylinder 7. The last support is moved upwardly to press the blade wipers and wiper fingers more firmly against the last. Specification 963,513 is referred to.
