Abstract

A method for removing adherent deposits, e.g. scale, from the internal surfaces of a closed <PICT:0963327/C6-C7/1> container, e.g. tubes and steam space of a steam boiler, comprises the steps of supplying a foamed liquid cleansing agent, e.g. water containing an inhibited inorganic acid and a synthetic detergent, to the interior of said container and varying the pressure within said container. The apparatus described comprises a foam generator 1 to which compressed air is supplied by compressor 6, the foam being conducted by pipe 25 into boiler 2, valve means 18, 19, 20 and 21 being provided to cause the pulsating pressure variation in boiler 2.
