Abstract
<PICT:0850872/III/1> An ion-exchanger is fed to the bottom of a vertical bed 9 at 10 and liquid is fed in at the top of the vessel 9. Periodically the flow of liquid is interrupted and part of the top of the bed is driven out through outlet 24 near the top of the vessel by means of fluid pressure. The outlet is shut, fresh exchanger introduced, preferably while the bed is being pulsated by device 13 and the flow of liquid is resumed. The fluid pressure may be set up by admitting a fluid under pressure or may be built up in situ. In the diagram the apparatus is used for regeneration in a continuous cycle with absorber 1.
