Abstract
963,156. Tumbling apparatus. ALMCO SUPERSHEEN DIVISION OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd., and C. J. A. KELLARD. Nov. 24, 1961, No. 42201/61. Addition to 949,693. Heading B3D. The vibratory barrel-type finishing machine disclosed in the parent Specification is modified in that spaced flat spiral springs 21 replace the helical compression springs supporting the barrel and vibrator unit 15, 16, on the cradle structure 7 and, as the springs 21 limit end-float of the barrel 15 they also replace the elliptical stabilizing springs used in apparatus disclosed in the prior Specification. The springs 21 are attached to the barrel-vibrator unit at spaced intervals by pins 24 carried by bifurcated brackets 23. These brackets may be mounted as shown in Fig. 1 or alternatively, on the top face of the extended flange 18 of the vibrator or on the side member 19, the outer ends 25 of the springs being attached to the member 19 or the flange 18 respectively. In a further modification the springs 21 may be mounted so that their axes extend transversely of the cradle 7. As in the parent Specification, the structure 7 is rotatably mounted by bearings 10 and rotated by a piston-and-cylinder device 12, and the rotary vibrator 16 is driven by a belt from a pulley coaxial with the axis of rotation of the structure 7. As in Specification 949,692, the vibrator 16 and barrel 15 are bolted together at flanges 17, 18.
