Mechanism for vibrating a screen along a desired variable line of action comprises four eccentric masses 6 ... 9 on four shafts 2 ... 5 equally spaced about a central axis, one, 2, only of the shafts being driven through a pulley 19, and all the shafts being geared together at 15 ... 18 to rotate alternately in opposite directions, the mass-movements of each oppositely rotating pair, 7, 8 and 6, 9, being equalized. The phasing of the gears is such that all eccentric throws are parallel in the same direction to a line of action (Fig. 4) twice per revolution, with neutralizing positions therebetween. Altering the phasing of the gears alters the direction of this line of action. The gears 17, 18 may or may not be in mesh.
