949,692. Vibratory finishing. ALMCO SUPERSHEEN DIVISION OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd., and C. J. A. KELLARD. Feb. 24, 1961, No. 6954/61. Heading B3D. A finishing machine comprises a vibratory barrel assembly in which the barrel is of generally U-shaped cross-section having opposed upstanding side walls and is removably secured at its base to a rotary vibrating mechanism in the form of a self-contained unit. A rotary vibratory unit 1 comprises a shaft 2 extending lengthwise of a fabricated structure 3 and having mounted at each end unbalance weights revolving in housings 4. One end 5 of the shaft is connected to a driving motor, e.g. by a a pulley on the shaft and a belt connecting it to the motor. The barrel 6 has the shape described in Specification 949,691 and its base is provided along each side with a flange 7 secured to a corresponding flange 8 at the top of the vibratory unit by bolts 9 or other releasable fixing elements, e.g. spring-loaded clamps. The barrel and vibratory unit assembly is supported by helical compression springs, the upper ends of which are connected to brackets 10 secured to the side walls of the barrel; alternatively, extensions 11 of the flanges 8 of the vibratory unit are secured to the upper ends of the springs, thus facilitating the removal of the barrel. The barrel and vibratory unit assembly may be supported on a tiltable cradle as described in Specification 949,693.
