962,927. Valves. RHEINISCHES METALLWERK G.m.b.H. March 30, 1962 [April 1, 1961], No. 12290/62. Heading F2V. A valve has a plug closure member 12 tapering towards its free end and guided in the housing 10, 11 perpendicularly to the direction of the through-flow passage 19 to open and close the valve, the free end of the closure member, in a plane perpendicular to the passage 19, being rounded in shape corresponding to the passage and being covered by or part of a covering 15 of elastomeric material fitted on the closure member, the free end of the covering having an externally-projecting bead or flange-like part 16 extending along and projecting from the bearing portions of the rounded free end of the covering. The bead 16 is washed into the tapered sides of the plug, as shown in Fig. 2, and is divided by a central groove 17 which allows it to yield and accommodate to the wall of the passage. In a modification, the central groove 17 is replaced by two grooves on the upstream and downstream sides respectively of the rib 16.
