Abstract

Tetraphenyltetrachlorotetraphosphonitrile <FORM:0962877/C1/1> is prepared by reacting, under anhydrous conditions, at about 140-155 DEG C. and in the absence of a solvent, phenylphosphorus tetrachloride with ammonium chloride. A small amount of trimer is also obtained. The starting materials may be intimately mixed and the products may be extracted with an organic solvent. Two of the four chlorine atoms may be replaced by phenyl or -NR2 where R is an aliphatic or aromatic group.
