962,527. Solution mining of minerals. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Feb. 7, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 5106/63. Heading E1F. Potassium chloride is recovered from a natural deposit containing sodium chloride and potassium chloride by establishing a cavity in the deposit by feeding water thereto and removing brine therefrom, and then, when the cavity is formed to a sufficient size, reducing the pressure of the water in the cavity to cause collapse of the roof of the cavity. Collapsing of the roof permits of particle suspension in the brine, the particles being extracted with the brine to give a higher recovery rate of potassium chloride as well as new and larger surface for the brine to act on.
