Abstract
1,071,158. Solution mining. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Nov. 6, 1963 [May 3, 1963], No. 43759/63. Heading E1F. In the solution mining of potassium chloride from a subterranean deposit feeding water, which may comprise an unsaturated aqueous solution of one or both of sodium and potassium chloride, is fed into the deposit to develop a cavity therein and the aqueous solution produced in the development of the cavity is replaced before it is saturated until the cavity is sufficiently enlarged that the size thereof permits of a concentrated solution, 90-98% saturated, of potassium chloride being obtained at an economical rate. Preferably the unsaturated solution is forwarded to an existing developed cavity in a potassium chloriderich deposit to obtain a more concentrated solution therefrom.
