Abstract
945,220. Solution mining of minerals. PITTSBURG PLATE GLASS CO. May 21, 1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 19430/62. Heading E1F. Solution mining of potassium chloride is carried out by drilling at least one borehole down to and through the potassium chloride deposit, feeding water or a potassium chlorideunsaturated solution down to the underside of the deposit to dissolve out a cavity there under, and then gradually allowing the level of the roof of the cavity to be raised by drawing out brine from the cavity as the potassium chloride deposit dissolves into a solution. Roof control of the cavity being formed is obtained by pumping down to the cavity a water immiscible inert fluid that will separate out above the water and brine in the cavity to form a layer sealing of the cavity roof from the dissolving action of the water. U.S.A. Specifications 2,161,800 and 2,331,890 are referred to.
