Abstract

892,444. Solution-mining of potassium chloride. COLUMBIA-SOUTHERN CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960], No. 324/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 68(1). Potassium chloride is mined from a subterranean deposit of potassium chloride and sodium chloride by introducing an aqueous medium into a cavity in the deposit and allowing the medium to dissolve out the two chlorides to form an aqueous solution thereof. The solution is then drawn up to the surface where solid potassium chloride is then deposited from the solution, preferably by allowing cooling of the solution. The partdepleted potassium chloride and sodium chloride solution or mother liquor is drained from the solid potassium chloride. The sodium and potassium chlorides content of this mother liquor is then adjusted, preferably by replacing part of the liquor with a suitable amount of water, so that on the liquor being returned into the cavity in the deposit further potassium chloride and sodium chloride is dissolved and the extraction process continued.
