Abstract

962,084. Cathode-ray storage tubes. CSFCOMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. March 19, 1963 [March 28, 1962], No. 10758/63. Heading H1D. A target for an electronic storage tube comprises a porous insulating layer having induced conductivity properties to which a predetermined amount of activating metal was added to the insulating material of the layer, prior to forming, so as to predetermine the remanence, defined as the time of subsistence of the induced conductivity in the presence of read-out. The activated insulating material comprising zinc sulphide to which is added 0.1 to 10% by weight of manganese or copper is deposited on an aluminium layer, or on a film of collodion used as a temperary support between the aluminium layer and the insulating layer. The zinc sulphide is vaporized on to the aluminium or collodion under a poor vacuum of the order of 10<SP>-4</SP>mm. Hg, at a temperature of the order of 950‹ C. so as to produce a porous layer. The remanence of the target with 1 to 10% of manganese is 2 to 20 times the time taken for the signal to attain one-half its initial value, depending on the proportion of metallic activator. Specification 798,204 is referred to.
