Abstract

961,886. Television. FERNSEH G.m.b.H. March 27, 1962 [April 1, 1961], No. 11613/62. Heading H4F. The object of the invention is to ensure that a television receiver which is connected to a low impedance video signal source via a switching device receives synchronization pulses when the switching device is operated so that the video signal is not applied to the receiver. This object is achieved by continually applying to the receiver auxiliary synchronization pulses from a high impedance source which is effectively short-circuited by the low impedance of the video signal source when the latter is applied. In a basic form of the invention (Fig. 1, not shown), the auxiliary source is applied to each of two receivers which may receive any one of three video signals by way of a cross-bar switching system. In a more detailed embodiment (Fig. 2), a receiver (not shown), connected to the channel 7 receives any one of three video signals through input channels K1, K2, K3 and relay contacts Sch1, Sch2, Sch3. The auxiliary source is applied to the signal grid 1 of one stage of output valve 5 through inverter 13 and high impedance 8, 9. The time constant of this impedance is chosen to be equal to the time constant of the grid leak resistor 15 in association with the stray capacitance of the valve 5. When a video signal is applied by energizing the corresponding relay the resistance between the point P1 and earth is small compared to the resistance 8 and the auxiliary source is effectively short-circuited. The valve 5 may be replaced by a transistor. The amplitude of the auxiliary synchronizing pulses is preferably half that of those included in the video signal.
