An electrically driven glandless pump having a three-phase motor of which each phase winding is connected between a different pair of terminals of a power connector whereby on making a common connection between three of the terminals which are connected to different windings such windings are star connected for three-phase energization over the remaining three terminals or upon making connections between terminals which are connected to different windings the windings are delta connected for single phase energization between any two of the interconnected pairs of terminals with a capacitive connection between one of such two pairs and the third pair. In Fig. 1 a pump has an impeller 4 driven by a three-phase motor 3. The motor has a rotor 5 whose shaft carries the impeller 4, the stator being shielded from the liquid being pumped by a sleeve 7 which is sealed to the casing. The ends of the three-phase windings, Fig. 2, are brought out on six pins 16-21 in plug P. For working on three-phase systems, the windings are connected in star by connecting socket sleeves 16, 18, 20 together and feeding the input power to sleeves 17, 19, 21, Fig. 3 (not shown). For working on a single phase system the socket sleeves 16 and 17, 18 and 19, 20 and 21 are connected together in pairs, Fig. 4 (not shown), to provide a delta winding and the mains power applied to sleeves 19, 21, the sleeves 17, 19 being coupled by a capacitor. Two-part couplings.-The plug and socket for a three-phase central heating pump has an apertured insulating housing 23, Figs. 5, 6, which has a support plate 26 secured to it by screws 27. The support plate has seven pins 16 to 21 riveted to it on which are terminated the ends of the motor windings. The socket 5, Figs. 7, 8, comprises a two-part housing 31, 32 of insulating material, the part 31 being shaped to fit into the recess 33 in housing 23. The part 31 has seven recesses 34 which house the seven socket sleeves. The socket sleeves are held in position by the housing part 32 which is secured to part 31 by screws 36. A cable clamp 38, 39 is provided in the housing. Detachable bridging members may be supplied in the plug or the socket so that the windings may be connected in star or delta fashion.
