Abstract

960,505. Textile treating apparatus. BRADFORD DYERS' ASSOCIATION Ltd. April 25, 1963 [April 10,1962], No. 13798/62. Addition to 903, 222. Heading D1L. In treating textile material in the piece with liquid, the material is moved though a bath of the liquid around the periphery of a rotating roller, the liquid is flung centrifugally outwards from the roller against the material and the outwardly flung liquid confined between the roller and the material is allowed to flow outwards from the centre line of the material and to escape at the edges of the material, the material being transversely stretched by this outflow as it moves through the bath. In the apparatus shown material 11 passes over tensioning roller 12, guide roller 16 into tank 2 containing washing liquid 1, under guide roller 17, round agitating roller 7, under guide roller 18, round agitating roller 8, under guide roller 19, and out of the tank via roller 20 and between a pair of driving rollers 21, 22. Agitating, rollers 7, 8 each have four brackets 9 projecting radially at each end, each pair of brackets carrying a satellite roller 10 there-between. The rollers 10 from vanes extending axially along the rollers 7, 8. In operation whilst the rollers 7, 8 are at rest or rotating slowly the material 11 remains in contact with rollers 10 as shown in full lines. As the speed of rotation increases the washing water 1 is picked up and thrown outwards centrifugally against the underside of material 11 such that the latter takes the path indicated in chain dotted line 11a. The water escapes sideways along the space between the material 11 and the rollers 7, 8 so that transverse currents are set up. As an alternative the material 11 may be taken around the underside of roller 8 as shown at 11b so that the material is treated from both sides. A perforated water supply pipe 23 is positioned just above the material 11 between roller 20 and the nip of rollers 21, 22 and a suction pipe 24 is positioned on the underside of material 11. A steam ejector draws water from tank 3 and the mixture is fed to pipe 23 and sprayed over the surface of the material 11 after it has left tank 2. The suction in pipe 24 is also caused by a steam ejector and this suction extracts excess liquid from the material 11 which liquid is returned via pipe 31 into the bottom of tank 2. The tank 2 is connected to a subsidiary tank 3 by a pipe 4 and the water level 5 in these two tanks is kept constant by a float valve 6.
