Abstract

A spit 12 is mounted beneath a horizontal grill with one end mounted in a bearer 26 and the other end engaged by a drive coupling 18 from a motor 11 mounted in a carrier 13, the arrangement being such that the distance of the spit from the grill is adjustable. As shown, the grill cover 10 and the grill 7 are swung downwards and upwards respectively to their horizontal "in use" positions. The e.g. electric, spit motor 11 is pivoted in carrier 13 which is detachably secured to a flange 14 on the grill. The motor is held in the desired position by a spring biased plunger with an enlarged portion 22 which engages widened portions 20 of an arcuate slot 19 in one limb 16 of carrier 13. The end of the spit 12 passes through a corresponding arcuate slot 25 in the other limb 15 of carrier 13, to engage the coupling 18. The bearing plate 26 is detachably secured to a flange 27 depending from the grill and has rests 28 for the other end of the spit. In a modification, an arcuate plate may be provided on the carrier having a straight slot instead of slot 19 and in either case clamping screws may be used instead of a plunger. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the motor is adjustable by sliding vertically in a carrier mounted on the cooker or grill unit. Otherwise, the motor and spit may be mounted on a drip pan 47 and be adjustable by sliding vertically or by being pivoted, Figs. 4 or 5 (not shown). The motor may have projections 52, Fig. 6, with hooks which engage any of a series of pairs of slots in plate 51. Alternatively, plate 51 may have hooks which engage slots in projections 52. The motor and spit may be non-adjustably mounted on the drip pan which can be mounted at different levels on the grill unit or cooker or may have an adjustable undercarriage.
