Abstract

960,270. Centrifugal separators ; nozzles for disseminating gases &c. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Aug. 11, 1961 [Aug. 25, 1960], No. 29170/61. Addition to 933,225. Headings B2F and B2P. In an apparatus of the kind described in the parent Specification for moving material, the potential flow is set up by the injection of a medium through at least one nozzle provided on its inner surface with asperities, screwthreads or teeth for producing turbulence in the medium. In Fig. 1, air is introduced through a pipe 6 into a nozzle 1 having asperities 4, 2 respectively on its inner outlet surface and on the end of an adjustable plunger 3. The degree of turbulence is increased by the provision of a sharp edge 5 and of vanes 15, the latter imparting a spiral movement to the air. In Fig. 2, an inner turbulent cone 9 is created by the roughened surface of a pointed member 8 which may be provided with an axial bore to produce a third turbulent core. In another embodiment, the air is injected axially through a nozzle in which are mounted two concentric tubular inserts with roughened surfaces and a centrally arranged roughened pointed member. In a further embodiment, a rectangular nozzle is provided with asperities on its inner sides and with guide plates at its outlet end which has a convergent configuration. Turbulence may be further enhanced by blowing in air in a pulsating or intermittent stream.
