Abstract
959,824. Securing windscreen-wiper arms on shafts. TRICO-FOLBERTH Ltd. Sept. 15, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959], No. 31884/59. Heading F2U. In means wherein a radially inner part 5 of a wiper arm comprises a serrated socket 1 engaging a serrated driving head 3 and a spring 9 between the inner part 5 and a radially outer part 10 pivoted thereto at 7 urges said outer part against the windscreen, the socket serrations are confined to diagonally opposite, respectively upper and lower regions 18, 20 shown, the remaining socket regions being recessed relatively to the overall outline of the head 3, so that under the action of the spring the socket serrations are urged to engage the head, and when the socket is tilted against the spring, as shown, the serrations disengage and the socket may, without axial removal, be circumferentially adjusted with respect to the head 3. Axial retaining means comprises a radial, bayonet projection 24 on the head which projection passes through one of preferably two diametrically opposite axial grooves 26 and enters a circumferential groove 28 in the socket. The socket may be produced by being first fully serrated and then recessed by an angularly introduced tool profiled to the overall outline of the driving head, or may be a die-cast replica of a shape so produced.
