In a roof bar support for mine roofs having a pivoted extension 11 attached to the front end of the roof bar 10, the extension 11 is so attached that when. retracted from the roof its top surface is substantially parallel to, but at a lower level than, the bar's top surface, the top surface of the tip 11<SP>1</SP> of the extension 11 being downwardly inclined so that when set against the roof, it is substantially coplanar with the bar's top surface.
