Abstract

Azodicarbonamide is produced by passing chlorine into an agitated aqueous suspension of hydrazodicarbonamide to which is added at least 0.01 parts of dissolved bromide ion per 100 parts of hydrazodicarbonamide. The reaction may be performed at a temperature from 0 DEG C. to 90 DEG C. The source of bromide ion may be a metal bromide, e.g. sodium or potassium bromide.
