Vinyl chloride prepn by heat-decompsn of C2H4Cl2 at 400-600 degrees C is catalysed by presence of 0.01-0.3 wt.% CCl4 (w.r.t. the C2H4Cl2). Degree of decompsn. can be increased by 10-20% at same reaction temp., or temp may be lowered by 15-20 degrees C to maintain same degree of decompsn.
