A device for bending flat bars comprising two abutment members 1 against which the flat bars 6 bear and which are disposed at a distance from one another with their axes 4 parallel to one another and which are rotatable each around its respective axis 4, and a ram 2 adapted to move in the plane of symmetry of the said two axes is characterized in that the ram 2 has an edge 3 extending parallel to the said axes 4 and the abutments 1 are in the form of prisms of triangular or square cross-section. The ram 2 may be moved by an hydraulic cylinder 7. By fitting a flat cap 9, Fig. 4, on the ram 2 the device may be used to straighten a bent bar 6. The distance between the axes 4 may be adjustable. In a modification, Fig. 5, a head 8 carrying the prisms 1 is mounted on a plate 11 extending from a base 10 and is further held by a cross-beam 13 mounted on side members 12 pivoted to the base 10 at 14 swung up by a handle 16 and locked in position by a rod 15. A pump 18 for the cylinder 7 may be hand or motor driven. A scale 20 on one prism 1 may be provided.
