Abstract
959,371. Electric heating fabrics. EDWARD W. ANDREW Ltd., and E. D. ANDREW. Nov. 17, 1960 [Nov. 17, 1959], No. 38886/59. Heading H5H. [Also in Division D1] A method of producing an electric heating fabric, Fig. 1, comprises the steps of continuously feeding a backing 10 of textile fabric to a warpknitting machine and simultaneously feeding an electric heating wire 12 to such machine so that the wire is disposed in a sinuous manner across the fabric in a weftwise direction and is held at predetermined intervals to the fabric by lines 12 of warp-knitted stitches. The fabric may be laid between an underfelt and a carpet with the wired surface downward or may be embedded in a floor. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, intended to be used as an underlay, a padding of textile sliver 13 in rope form is secured to the backing 101 together with the heating wire 111 by rows 121 of stitches. In a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), the heating wire is secured between two layers of hessian or canvas, to one of which the layer of sliver padding is secured.
