Abstract

959,315. Transfers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 14, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 9290/61. Heading B6C. A process for making a print on a fibrous fabric comprises printing a transfer backing sheet with a disperse dye and a binding agent which is not fusible by heat, drying the print, applying the sheet to the fabric, which is dyeable with disperse dyes, heating the fabric, preferably between 170‹ and 220‹ C., in contact with the sheet for a time sufficient to effect transfer of the dye but not of the binding agent and finally separating the sheet from the fabric. In one described embodiment, a mixture of " Duranol " Dark Blue T (Registered Trade Mark) disperse dye, " Indalca. " UBV (Registered Trade Mark)-believed to be an esterified or etherified natural gum-water and pine-oil emulsion is screen-printed on to a paper backing sheet and allowed to dry. The printed side of the sheet is then placed in contact with a synthetic fibre fabric e.g. of cellulose triacetate, the polyesters, particularly polyethylene terephthalate, the polyamides particularly nylon, and a smoothing iron set at 180-183‹ C. is pressed for three minutes on to the unprinted side of the paper. The paper is then removed. The heating may be performed at 190-193‹ C. for two minutes and the "Indalca" of the printing mixture may be replaced by an alginate under the Trade name " Manutex SX " (Registered Trade Mark). Gum tragacanth is another suitable binding agent.
