Abstract

Synthetic textile materials are transfer printed by contacting with a transfer material printed with a coloured pattern made up of >=1 disperse azopyridone dyes of formula (I) and heating to transfer the dye. The dyes (I) have the formula. (I) in which X is halogen, Y is H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy gp. and R is 1-18C alkyl. (I) give fast reddish yellow to greenish yellow tints on synthetic textiles of E.g. cellulose triacetate, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane, polyamide and (esp.) aromatic polyesters. The prints have good fastness to light, wet processing and heat. The (I) transfer print rapidly at 160-220 degrees so that damage to the fabric is avoided due to excessive heating during the transfer operation.
