959,307. Conveying and sorting installations. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Oct. 25, 1961 [Oct. 25, 1960], No. 38278/61. Heading B8A. A conveying hanger 1 movable by a conveying chain 2 has a soft iron plate 4 on which magnetizable foils 5 are secured. By magnetization of individual foils a scanning device at a specific delivery station can be activated and discharge of the hanger takes place. In Figs. 2, 4 a foil 7 on an iron plate 6 cooperates with a scanning head 8 containing a Hall generator 9 which in accordance with the direction of magnetization recorded on the foil produces a voltage of specific polarity. Rollers 10 maintain a predetermined air gap between the foil and the head 8. Alternatively, rails may be used. There may be a plurality of scanning heads when there are a plurality of foils. In Fig. 5, five foils a-e are magnetized such that signals would be developed only by the scanning heads associated with foils a and d. In Fig. 6 the magnetization of a foil 15 is such that four signals will be produced by the scanning head when the foil moves past the head. The foils are magnetized at various feeding stations. In place of the Hall generator a resistance of which the value varies in dependence on a magnetic field may be used.
