In a vehicle-mounted concrete mixer the rotary drum 1 is driven by a hydraulic motor 23 supplied by either one of two pumps 17, 18 separately, or both together ; the pumps being driven from the vehicle engine 9 through a cardan shaft 12 driven from a V-pulley 10, and bevel gears 14, 15, 16. The pumps and bevel gear are preferably arranged ahead of the motor with one pump each side of the gearing as shown. The pumps supply lines 19, 20 respectively which are separately controlled by electromagnetic valves 21, 22 so that fluid from either or both lines may be supplied to the motor 23 or returned to the reservoir 24; a reversing valve (not depicted) may also be provided. The valves are operated by switches 31, 34 in the vehicle cab and optionally also at the rear of the vehicle.
