Abstract

958,102. Colour television tube screens. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 9, 1963 [Jan. 12, 1962], No. 1038/63. Heading H1D. In manufacturing a multi-colour, cathode-ray tube display screen, the last luminescent material to be applied is mixed with a photosensitive binder and is spread on the screen support over the previously applied discrete luminescent areas. The binder is then exposed to the influence of a hardening radiation, both on its free surface at those areas at which the discrete areas of the last luminescent material are desired, and also through the support. The two irradiations are such that the binder is not hardened at the previouslyapplied luminescent areas, this unexposed binder being subsequently removed. Irradiation through the support causes the binder to be hardened over substantially the whole of its contact area with the support, whereby the last applied luminescent material fills the whole surface area of the support between the previously-applied discrete luminescent areas, and has a layer thickness which is greater in discrete areas, due to the irradiation on its free surface. The last-applied luminescent material may be a red-luminescing zinccadmium sulphide activated with silver. The luminescent materials are then coated with a reflecting, electron-permeable, metallic layer. Specifications 915,845 and 916,832 are referred to
