Abstract

1331539 Luminescent screens PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 45358/71 Heading HID A light-absorbing coating is provided on a colour television screen in the interstices of the phosphor areas by coating the screen with a photo-sensitive material which has a sticky surface when unexposed, this sticky property disappearing on exposure to radiation, exposing the screen three times through a shadow mask to expose areas of the surface on which phosphors will later be deposited, coating the sticky layers with a powder or suspension of the light absorbing material, and washing the latter off exposed areas. The three sets of phosphors are then deposited in known manner by photoconductive or by photo-resist processes. The photo-sensitive material may consist of " Cermifax " and disappears on firing after aluminizing the screen. The light-absorbing material may be graphite, MnO 2 or Fe 3 O 4 .
