Abstract

1379047 Luminescent screens HITACHI Ltd 2 Dec 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 56104/71 Heading H1D In the manufacture of a colour television screen by exposing a photo-resist through a shadow mask 1, the apertures lc in the mask are effectively reduced in size by covering the mask with a light attenuating layer 2b and a photosensitive layer 2a which is exposed through the mask to leave light permeable dots 4 smaller than the apertures 1c. The layer 2a may be of material such as polyvinyl chloride which is sticky before exposure but loses its stickiness after exposure; light absorbent material 5 such as carbon is applied to the surface either before or after exposure so that it adheres only to the unexposed areas. Alternatively the layer 2a may be of photoconductive material such as polyvinyl carbazole. The layer 3 is a transparent binding layer which may be omitted. The screen may be of the type including opaque material in the interstices of the phosphor dots.
