Abstract

The colour cathode ray tube screen has a number of phosphor elements of three types, corresponding to the three primary colours, these phosphor elements being surrounded by a black matrix film of light absorbing material. Prior to the production of the phosphor elements the entire inner surface of the face screen is coated with a photoresistive material. This coating is exposed to light to produce a latent image in the photoresistive layer. This latent image is then developed in order to remove parts of the coating, corresponding to the passive part of the screen. At least this passive part is coated with a light absorbing material, and then the remaining photoresistive layer is removed from the active part of the screen. the light absorbing film may be provided on the passive screen part prior to or after the application of the black matrix film.
