Abstract
1340589 Luminescent screens MATSUSHITA ELECTRONICS CORP 16 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 58419/71 Heading H1D [Also in Division G2] In a photo-resist process of making a colour television screen wherein a film of polyvinyl alcohol-dichromate solution containing a phosphor is exposed, e.g. through a shadow mask, and the unexposed areas are washed away with warm water, the screen is then treated with a chromic acid solution to harden the exposed areas so that a subsequently deposited film containing a different phosphor will not stick to them. In the case of a three-colour screen the hardening process should be applied to the first two phosphors to be deposited. The chromic acid solution should have a pH of not more than 2 and a concentration between 0À5 and 10% by weight. Increasing concentration improves the required effect (Fig. 1, not shown) but also reduces the luminance of the phosphor (Fig. 2, not shown), so the optimum is about 5%. The screen may be of the multi-dot or of the multiline type, and may include opaque material between the phosphor areas.
