Abstract

957,567. Space heating apparatus. F. H. BIDDLE Ltd. Jan. 29, 1963 [Feb. 6, 1962], No. 4599/62. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger, for use in a vertical or horizontal position, includes a plurality of channel-shaped sections 13 arranged so that their web portions 14 form a front panel 10, and at least one tube 29 for conveying heating fluid extending through perforations in the flanges 15 and 16 of the sections. A rear panel 11 is fixed to the flanges and a top cover 33 is also provided. The tubes are held in the flanges by collars and the whole assembly is completed by the addition of channel members 21 and 24 with shorter flanges 23 to accommodate the return bends of the tubes 29. In another arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the channel members have louvres formed at their upper ends so that air can be drawn through the heat exchanger and heated by contact with the tubes. If mainly radiant heat is required the heat exchanger can be modified as in Fig. 5 by the addition of a bottom cover 34, and a heat reflecting sheet 35 on the inside of the rear panel, the louvres being omitted and the front panel 10 darkened. According to the Provisional Specification a fan may be provided to force air through the louvres.
