Abstract

A gold based alloy suitable for use in dental work comprises: .Au.80.0-90.0% .Pt.5.0-15.0% .In.0.1-2.0% .Sn.0.1-2.0% .Re.0.05-1.0% preferably 0.1-0.5% In addition, one or more of the following elements may be present within the ranges stated: .Pd.up to 5% .Ag.up to 5% .Cu.up to 1% .Zn.up to 0.5% .Ir.0.05-0.5% Heat treatments described are heating for 15 minutes at 800 or 950 DEG C. with an optional second step of 15 minutes at 500 DEG C.
