Abstract
957,425. Washing machines. SIEMENSELECTROGERATE A.G. June,23,1960 [June 24, 1959], No. 22080/60. Heading D1A. [Also in Division F4] The drum assembly of a washing machine is rigidly secured during washing and at the commencement of the spin-drying operation but is resiliently mounted when the drum speed reaches a predetermined value above the critical speed. In Fig. 1 the drum shaft 2 rotates in a bearing 3 which is supported by springs 4. While the drum is rotating at low speeds the bearing 3 is held between clamping members 5a, 5b, operated by a piston 7 and cylinder 6. Release of the clamping members may be effected automatically by a time or speed responsive control. In Fig. 2 (not to scale) the drum assembly 13,16 is supported on rubber mountings 24, the left hand one being shown in the clamping position and the right hand one in the resilient mounting position. Changeover is effected by a hydraulic cylinder 29 through linkage 30, a pre-loaded spring 31 making the changeover rapid. Automatic load balancing devices 20, 21 are provided.
