957,234. Printing apparatus; selective printing; cutting apparatus. W. KRAUT, E. KRAUT, and A. KRAUT. March 6, 1962 [March 7, 1961], No. 8602/62. Headings B6C, B6F and B6H. Apparatus for producing printed labels comprises means for printing upon a paper strip and means for cutting-off portions to form labels, the printing means including at least one impression roller which rolls across a printing member, the strip being interposed between the roller and the member. In the apparatus shown a paper strip 49a is fed intermittently to a position where it is simultaneously printed upon by a printing member 35, severed by a rotating- cutter 47 and printed upon by an adjustable type-wheel 30. The printing is effected through rollers 43, 45 which move horizontally across the strip pressing the latter against an intermittently movable inking ribbon 25 which abuts the member 35 and the type 31 of the wheel 30. The rollers, which are mounted on vertical axes so as to wobble about an axis parallel with the rolling direction, are carried by a plate 41 fixed to a rod 40.which is reciprocable longitudinally by power means (not shown). The rod is mounted in recesses, such as 10a, Fig. 3, in the side frames 10, 20 of the apparatus through pivotally mounted plates 12, 21 which are outwardly biased by springs 18 and carry rollers 17, 17a engaging the rod. The cutter is mounted on an outwardly spring-biased forked member 46 which is mounted on the rod to be movable with the plate 41, but rotatable relative to the rod.
