A photographic camera comprises an exposure meter device, the circuit of which includes a photoelectric resistance and a galvanometer arranged for connection to a battery, and a fixed resistance connected in parallel with said photo-electric resistance, said galvanometer having a needle which moves relative to a check mark for testing the battery. The intensity of light passing through objective 1, 2 to a photo-electric resistance 11 is modified by the setting of diaphragm 3. The diaphragm is set by moving knob 4 over a scale 5. When switch 15 is closed the galvanometer 8 is connected to the resistance 11 and the index on its disc 9 moves over an exposure time scale on setting ring 14. To set the exposure time, ring 14 is then rotated until mark A is opposite the index 9. Resistance 11 is moved out of the light path on operation of shutter switch 18. The galvanometer battery 13 can be tested by means of a resistance 12 arranged in parallel with resistance 11. With no light reaching resistance 11 index 9 should be opposite index 10.
