A hair drier comprises a double-walled hood 10, Fig. 1, having an in-turned rim portion for directing air back into the hood. This may be mounted on a telescopic air supply tube 11 attached at its lower end to the outlet of a domestic vacuum cleaner 12. The hood comprises an outer shell 41, Fig. 6, and an inner liner 42, the two being secured together by flanges at their lower edges. The flange on the liner 42 is slightly eccentric, so that the enclosed space 43 is wider at the front of the hood than at the back, and the flange is perforated to allow air to pass through to a deflecting collar 44 which is in-turned at 45 to deflect the air back into the hood. A hollow extension 51, at the rear of the hood, conducts air from the tube 11 into the space 43 and is pivoted to the top of the tube at 60. The parts are preferably made of slightly resilient plastic so that an air-tight joint is provided by the side walls of the duct 51 and rear overlapping edge 51b against the top of the tube 11. The rear part of bead 44b bears against the surface 55 and by moving between limit stops 61, 62, limits the angular adjustment of the hood.
