Abstract

956,540. Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement. A. SCHMERMUND. Oct. 16, 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 39095/62. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] Two rows of oppositely facing cigarettes 19 are fed along a base plate 22 to grooves 2 of frustoconical members 1 which rotate cigarettes of each row symmetrically through 90 degrees and deposit them in a single row on belts 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, the cigarettes being similarly orientated with respect to their longitudinal axes. The members 1 are mounted on shafts 7 and are driven by gears 9, 10 and 10<SP>1</SP>. Each of grooves 2 of each member 1 is supplied with suction through bores 3 and a suction chamber 6, formed in the surface of a bearing member 5, which is connected to a suction line 18. Guides 12 and 13 are provided for directing cigarettes from the members 1 to the belts 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, each guide having portions which engage in annular groove 4 in the members 1. In an alternative arrangement the members 1 may be geared together at their apices and the cigarettes 19 fed thereto in two spaced rows.
