955,426. Nuclear fuel elements. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 2,1962 [Feb. 15, 1961], No. 4154/62. Addition to 955,425. Heading G6C. A nuclear fuel element casing 2 has flat transverse fins 3 and deflectors 4 for the cooling fluid which flows parallel to the longitudinal axis of the casing (in the direction of arrow 6), the deflectors 4 having a predetermined inclination relative to the direction of flow and being symmetrically disposed around the casing at the periphery of the fins 3, apertures 7 being provided in at least some of the fins for interconnecting the channels between adjacent fins. As shown in Fig. 2, the deflectors 4 are arranged in rows, each row being supported by a backbone 5 adjacent the apertures 7, the backbones 5 being secured as at 8 to certain of the fins 3 in which no apertures 7 are provided. This arrangement provides an improved flow into the channels and to obtain an improved. discharge, the rows of deflectors 4 must be secured to the fins 3 midway between the apertures 7. The two arrangements may be combined, some of the fins 3 being positioned with their apertures adjacent and some with their apertures midway between the rows of deflectors 4.
