Abstract
955,383. Clocks and watches. UNITED STATES TIME CORPORATION. Dec. 21, 1962 [Dec. 26, 1961], No. 48307/62. Heading G3T. In a lever escapement comprising a pivoted escape lever 2 carrying a pair of jewel pallets 26, 27 engaging an escape wheel 1 and controlled in known manner by an oscillatory balance wheel, the escape wheel has the faces of its teeth inclined to provide a draw angle on the teeth, and the pallets are substantially D-shaped, the straight sides of the D forming the impulse face. The corners of the D where the straight face terminates, are rounded at 38, 28 this rounded portion engaging the draw faces of the teeth. A small radius 22 at the bottom of the draw face is rounded into a side 21 of a projection on which the tooth is formed, this small radius forming with the draw face a pocket for the retention of lubricant. The pallets are separated on the lever by a distance greater by from 5 minutes of arc to 2 degrees than the distance determined by the usual formula 360 degrees/number of teeth Î number of teeth spanned by the pallets, and both pallets are given substantially the same drop clearance relative to the escape wheel. Also, the average direction assumed by each pallet in relation to the tooth surface during engagement is made equal. Further, the mean draw angle of the entrance and exit pallets may be made substantially equal as indicated in Fig. 3. Specification 100, 229 is referred to.
